Momentum for transportation initiative builds

Posted by Bruce Anderson, April 6th , 2006

In the aftermath of Tuesday morning’s Northfield Downtown Development Forum, momentum for a community-wide effort to promote and support measures to encourage people to get out of their cars and walk or bike around town (particularly downtown) is building. Strong interest was expressed by a number of folks in collaborating to move Northfield toward becoming much more bicycle- and pedestrian-friendly.

A number of possible approaches have been discussed at recent RENew Northfield Transportation Committee meetings, and an ad hoc group headed by Bill Ostrem and Anne Bretts has already coalesced around these issues. This group will become a bit more formal, with expanded membership, as a result of Tuesday’s meeting, and RENew Northfield will take the lead on this grassroots effort.

If you are interested in making Northfield a more pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly community, contact us, and stay tuned for more soon!
