St. Olaf Wind Turbine

St. Olaf College: Riding the Wind: the St. Olaf Wind Turbine ยป

Northfield’s St. Olaf College was awarded a $1.5 million grant from Xcel Energy’s Renewable Development Fund in late 2004 to assist in construction of a college-owned 1.65-megawatt wind turbine. St. Olaf anticipates interconnecting the turbine to the distribution loop feeding power to the campus, and directly consuming the majority of the power produced by the turbine.

The turbine has just been erected, is expecting to begin producing power in September 2006, and should provide about 30% of the electricity consumed annually on campus.
